Professional Experience

From March 12, 2012 – Sept 30, 2012 (The Royal Institute of Technology, KTH, Sweden)

Designation: Research Engineer

Department: Smart Transmission System Laboratory (SmarTS Lab) at the Division of Electric Power System, Department of Electric Power Engineering, KTH, Sweden.

Responsibilities: I was responsible for the laboratory setup for IEC-61850-8-1 (Station Bus) and IEC-61850-9-2 (Process Bus) using protection relays from Schwetizer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) and ABB. Three protection relays from SEL (2 distance relays SEL 421 and one Differential Relay SEL-487E) and two from ABB (Line Differential Relays RED-670) were used to implement these infrastructures. The protection relays were coupled with Opal-RT eMEGAsim Real-Time Simulator to simulate different instabilities in a power system to validate the implemented station and process buses. In addition a part of the work was to implement Open PDC and SEL-PDC (SEL-5073) to concentrate the PMU streams and time align them. These PDC streams were further used to develop synchronized phasor measurements based applications.

From April 27, 2009 – July 06, 2009 (Pak Arab Refinery Limited PARCO, Pakistan)

Designation: Trainee Engineer (Electrical)

Department: I was placed in the Corrosion Control & Cathodic Protection section of the PIPELINE DEPARTMENT of PARCO.

Responsibilities: I was attached with the senior engineers of the section for the in-depth knowledge and detailed overview of the whole Corrosion Control & Cathodic Protection section. For this purpose I was regularly visiting plant site to correlate my theoretical knowledge with its practical implementation. In addition I used to carry out PSP (Pipe to Soil Potential) survey and routine maintenance of the Transformer Rectifiers to ensure the effective implementation of  cathodic protection.  I  also  used  to  represent  my  department  in  monthly  meetings  to represent the department’s progress in front of the concerned managers.
